Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

My brother, Jesus

So one of the people there said to him, ‘Look, your mother and brothers are standing outside, and they want to speak with you.’ Jesus answered, ‘Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?’ Then he pointed to his disciples and said, ‘Look! Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does what my Father… Read more

Good fruit

‘To have good fruit you must have a healthy tree; if you have a poor tree, you will have bad fruit. A tree is known by the kind of fruit it bears. You snakes—how can you say good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. A good… Read more

Christ-like giving

‘So when you give something to a needy person, do not make a big show of it, as the hypocrites do in the houses of worship and on the streets. They do it so that people will praise them. I assure you, they have already been paid in full. But when you help a needy… Read more

Whose side are you on?

‘You say that I drive out demons because Beelzebul gives me the power to do so. Well, then, who gives your followers the power to drive them out? What your own followers do proves that you are wrong! No, it is not Beelzebul, but God’s Spirit, who gives me the power to drive out demons,… Read more

The gentle healer

When Jesus heard about the plot against him, he went away from that place; and large crowds followed him. He healed all those who were sick and gave them orders not to tell others about him. He did this so as to make what God had said through the prophet Isaiah come true:    ‘Here… Read more

A special experience

While he was still speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them with its shadow; and the disciples were afraid as the cloud came over them. A voice said from the cloud, ‘This is my Son, whom I have chosen-listen to him!’ When the voice stopped, there was Jesus all alone. The disciples kept quiet about… Read more

Adopted

‘I will announce’, says the king, ‘what the LORD has declared. He said to me, “You are my son; today I have become your father”’ (verse 7) Read Psalm 2 ‘How many children does God have?’ a student once asked me. ‘Does Jesus have any brothers and sisters?’ another chimed in. I am reminded of… Read more

The big picture

‘Those who love their father or mother more than me are not fit to be my disciples; those who love their son or daughter more than me are not fit to be my disciples. Those who do not take up their cross and follow in my steps are not fit to be my disciples. Those… Read more

Cupboard Christians?

‘Those who declare publicly that they belong to me, I will do the same for them before my Father in heaven. But those who reject me publicly, I will reject before my Father in heaven.’ (verses 32,33) Read Matthew 10:24-33 How easy is it for you to declare in public that you are a Christian?… Read more

Mission possible

‘People will hand over their own brothers to be put to death, and fathers will do the same to their children; children will turn against their parents and have them put to death. Everyone will hate you because of me. But whoever holds out to the end will be saved.’ (verses 21,22) Read Matthew 10:16-23… Read more
