Daily Devotion

Start or finish each day in God’s word, with devotions written by LCA/NZ members specifically for these challenging times. Sign up to receive Daily Devotion in your inbox every morning. Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

You have received without paying, so give without being paid.’ (verses 7,8) Read Matthew 10:5-15 Every now and again I receive an offer in the… Read more

All systems go

As he saw the crowds, his heart was filled with pity for them, because they were worried and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. So he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is large, but there are few workers to gather it in. Pray to the owner of the harvest that he will send out… Read more

Loving our enemies

‘But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you. If anyone hits you on one cheek, let him hit the other one too; if someone takes your coat, let him have your shirt as well…. Read more

Trusting

Give yourself to the Lord; Trust in him, and he will help you; He will make your righteousness shine like the midday sun. Be patient and wait for the Lord to act; don’t be worried about those who prosper or those who succeed in their evil plans.  (verses 5- 7) Read Psalm 37:1-11,39-40 I remember… Read more

Blind faith

When Jesus had gone indoors, the two blind men came to him, and he asked them, ‘Do you believe that I can heal you?’ ‘Yes, sir!’ they answered. Then Jesus touched their eyes and said, ‘Let it happen, then, just as you believe!’ – and their sight was restored. Jesus spoke sternly to them, ‘Don’t… Read more

Spreading the news

When Jesus came to the leader’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion, he said, “Go away; for the girl is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl… Read more

Outcasts

Jesus left that place, and as he walked along, he saw a tax collector, named Matthew, sitting in his office. He said to him, ‘Follow me.’ Matthew got up and followed him. While Jesus was having a meal in Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and other outcasts came and joined Jesus and his disciples at… Read more

Real healing

Jesus got into the boat and went back across the lake to his own town, where some people brought to him a paralysed man, lying on a bed. When Jesus saw how much faith they had, he said to the paralysed man, ‘Courage, my son! Your sins are forgiven.’ (verses 1,2) Read Matthew 9:1-8 It… Read more

Think, pair and share the love of Jesus

The swineherds ran off, and on going into the town, they told the whole story about what had happened to the demoniacs. Then the whole town came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their neighbourhood. (verses 33-34) Read Matthew 8:28-34 When sharing new ideas in workshops it’s not… Read more

Trust me

‘But I will bless the person who puts his trust in me. He is like a tree growing near a steam and sending out roots to the water. It is not afraid when hot weather comes, because its leaves stay green; it has no worries when there is no rain; it keeps on bearing fruit.’… Read more
