Daily Devotion

Start or finish each day in God’s word, with devotions written by LCA/NZ members specifically for these challenging times. Sign up to receive Daily Devotion in your inbox every morning. Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

Treasure

‘The Kingdom of heaven is like this. A man happens to find a treasure hidden in the ground. He covers it up again, and is so happy that he goes and sells everything he has, and then goes back and buys that piece of land.’ (verse 44) Read Matthew 13:44-52 How precious to me is… Read more

Too close for comfort?

‘Jerusalem, Jerusalem! You kill the prophets, you stone the messengers God has sent you! How many times have I wanted to put my arms around all your people, just as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, but you would not let me!’ (verse 34) Read Luke 13:31-35 It’s distressing as a parent to… Read more

Don’t worry, just praise!

In times of trouble he will shelter me;    he will keep me safe in his Temple    and make me secure on a high rock. So I will triumph over my enemies around me.    With shouts of joy I will offer sacrifices in his Temple;    I will sing, I will praise the… Read more

Small beginnings

Jesus told them another parable: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is like this. A man takes a mustard seed and plants it in the ground. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it grows up, it is the biggest of all plants. It becomes a tree, so that birds come and make their nests… Read more

Weeds and wheat

Jesus told them another parable: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is like this. A man sowed good seed in his paddock. One night, when everyone was asleep, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. When the plants grew and the heads of grain began to form, then the weeds showed up.’… Read more

How fruitful are you?

‘The seeds that fell among thornbushes stand for those who hear the message; but the worries about this life and the love for riches choke the message, and they don’t bear fruit. And the seeds sown in the good soil stand for those who hear the message and understand it: they bear fruit, some as… Read more

Privileged

‘As for you, how fortunate you are! Your eyes see and your ears hear. I assure you that many prophets and many of God’s people wanted very much to see what you see, but they could not, and to hear what you hear, but they did not.’ (verses 16,17) Read Matthew 13:1-17 It’s exciting to… Read more

The best food

Jesus returned from the Jordan full of the Holy Spirit and was led by the Spirit into the desert, where he was tempted by the Devil for forty days. In all that time he ate nothing, so that he was hungry when it was over. The Devil said to him, ‘If you are God’s Son,… Read more

God’s angels

God will put his angels in charge of you    to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands    to keep you   from hurting your feet on the stones. (verses 11,12) Read Psalm 91:1,2,9-16 I remember a picture that was on my bedroom wall when I was a child…. Read more
