Privileged

11 March 2019

‘As for you, how fortunate you are! Your eyes see and your ears hear. I assure you that many prophets and many of God’s people wanted very much to see what you see, but they could not, and to hear what you hear, but they did not.’ (verses 16,17)

Read Matthew 13:1-17

It’s exciting to have something to look forward to. Your face can light up, like that of a child going to the Royal Show. Before the event, you find out all you can about it, so you won’t miss any part of it.

The people of the Old Testament looked forward to the coming of the Messiah. They learnt scripture and reminded each other about its promises. Eventually Jesus Christ, the Messiah, did come, though not in the way most people were expecting the king to arrive.

How privileged the disciples of Jesus were to hear, see and touch the promised one. If the disciples were privileged, how much more privileged are we to know that Jesus has already been and will come again. We have God’s word, the Holy Spirit living in us, and the church. How fortunate we are.

How will you thank God for the privilege of knowing Jesus, hearing God’s word, belonging to his church, and having the Holy Spirit live in you?

Thank you, God, for the privilege of knowing that Christ has come and that he will come again. Amen.
