Daily Devotion

Start or finish each day in God’s word, with devotions written by LCA/NZ members specifically for these challenging times. Sign up to receive Daily Devotion in your inbox every morning. Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

Have I now become your enemy by telling the truth?

What has become of the goodwill you felt? For I testify that, had it been possible, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me. Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?  (verses 15, 16) Read Galatians 4:12-20 Paul is talking to the Galatians about the relationship that… Read more

The adopted children of God

It is through faith that all of you are God’s children in union with Christ Jesus. You were baptised into union with Christ, and now you are clothed, so to speak, with the life of Christ himself. So there is no difference between Jews and Gentiles, between slaves and free people, between men and women;… Read more

Prepare the way of the Lord

This is the Good News about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It began as the prophet Isaiah had written: ‘God said, “I will send my messenger ahead of you to clear the way for you.” Someone is shouting in the desert, “Get the road ready for the Lord; make a straight path for him… Read more

Making ‘lucky’ blessed again

LORD, you have been merciful to your land; you have made Israel prosperous again. You have forgiven your people’s sins and pardoned all their wrongs.     (verses 1, 2) Read Psalm 85:1, 2; 8-13 Australia has always been a richly blessed country. Australia felix – Australia the blessed country – Sir Thomas Mitchell the explorer, called… Read more

The revealing law

Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law. But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. (verses… Read more

Redeemed from the curse of the law

Christ redeemed us from that self-defeating, cursed life by absorbing it completely into himself. Do you remember the Scripture that says, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”? That is what happened when Jesus was nailed to the cross: He became a curse, and at the same time dissolved the curse. And now, because… Read more

The boarder who changes our lives

I have been put to death with Christ on his cross, so that it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. This life that I live now, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave his life for me.   (verses 19b, 20) Read… Read more

Running the race

“I went in response to a revelation and, meeting privately with those esteemed as leaders, I presented to them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. I wanted to be sure I was not running and had not been running my race in vain.”    (verse 2:2) Read: Galatians 1: 18 – 2: 10 Runners… Read more

Servant of Christ

For am I now seeking the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.    (verse 10) Read Galatians 1: 1-17 Paul is clearly upset with the Galatians for the life they’ve been living. He… Read more

Be alert!

‘No one knows, however, when that day or hour will come neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son; only the Father knows. Be on the lookout, be alert, for you do not know when the time will come. It will be like a man who goes away from home on a journey and leaves… Read more
