Servant of Christ

4 December 2017

For am I now seeking the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.    (verse 10)

Read Galatians 1: 1-17

Paul is clearly upset with the Galatians for the life they’ve been living. He also distances himself from human institutions, since he was not called by humans, but by God.

Like the Galatians, we are faced with false teachings every day from every side. Society, media and even friends and family telling us how to live, who to be, and what to live for.

Paul tells us that we need to stick to the teachings that we know to be true. Just because something seems official or true, doesn’t mean that it is. We are not called to follow and live for those around us, taking their words as truth. We are called to live for God, looking to him for truth and purpose.

Paul himself is a clear example. He once lived in anger and hatred, trying to destroy the Church. But God called him by grace and revealed himself to him. Paul was persecuted and suffered for his faith and teachings but as a servant of Christ, he did not give in, or give up on God’s calling.

It’s important for us to keep a wary eye on the information that is being taught to us ‘under God’, and we need to speak to others of the love of Christ.

Dear God, thank you for the truth you give me in your Word. Sorry for the times I look to the world and the lies of others instead of looking to what I know to be true in You. Please help me to be an example to others through serving you. Amen.
