Daily Devotion

Start or finish each day in God’s word, with devotions written by LCA/NZ members specifically for these challenging times. Sign up to receive Daily Devotion in your inbox every morning. Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

One of us

The attitude you should have is the one that Christ Jesus had: He always had the nature of God, but he did not think that by force he should try to remain equal with God. Instead of this, of his own free will he gave up all he had, and took the nature of a… Read more

Guilty as charged?

I want you to know, my friends, that the things that have happened to me have really helped the progress of the gospel. As a result, the whole palace guard and all the others h re know that I am in prison because I am a servant of Christ. And my being in prison has given… Read more

Loving with the heart of Jesus

I pray that your love will keep on growing more and more together with true knowledge and perfect judgment, so that you will be able to choose what is best. Then you will be free from all impurity and blame on the Day of Christ. Your lives will be filled with the truly good qualities… Read more

All I have to boast about

As for me, however, I will boast only about the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ; for by means of his cross the world is dead to me, and I am dead to the world. (verse 14) Read Galatians 6: 11-18 All of us boast at some time or other. Some of us do it often… Read more

What’s in it for me?

So let us not become tired of doing good; for if we do not give up, the time will come when we will reap the harvest. So then, as often as we have the chance, we should do good to everyone, and especially to those who belong to our family in the faith.  (Verses 9,10)… Read more

Preparing the way

God sent his messenger, a man named John, who came to tell people about the light, so that all should hear the message and believe. He himself was not the light; he came to tell about the light.  (verses 6-8) Read John 1:6-8, 19-28 Many people are involved in preparing the way for others. Surveyors… Read more

The joy of coming home

When the LORD brought us back to Jerusalem, it was like a dream! How we laughed, how we sang for joy! Then the other nations said about us, ‘The LORD did great things for them.’ Indeed he did great things for us; how happy we were!  (verses 1-3) Read Psalm 126 This psalm expresses the… Read more

Two different ways

What I say is this: let the Spirit direct your lives, and you will not satisfy the desires of the human nature. For what our human nature wants is opposed to what the Spirit wants, and what the Spirit wants is opposed to what our human nature wants. These two are enemies, and this means that… Read more

But what have we been freed to?

As for you, my friends, you were called to be free. But don’t let this freedom become an excuse for letting your physical desires control you. Instead, let love make you serve one another. For the whole law is summed up in one commandment: ‘Love your neighbour as you love yourself.’   (verses 13, 14) Read… Read more

Children of the promise

These things can be understood as a figure: the two women represent two covenants. The one whose children are born in slavery is Hagar, and she represents the covenant made at Mt Sinai. Hagar, who stands for Mt Sinai in Arabia, is a figure of the present city of Jerusalem, in slavery with all its… Read more
