Blind faith

22 February 2019

When Jesus had gone indoors, the two blind men came to him, and he asked them, ‘Do you believe that I can heal you?’

‘Yes, sir!’ they answered.

Then Jesus touched their eyes and said, ‘Let it happen, then, just as you believe!’ – and their sight was restored. Jesus spoke sternly to them, ‘Don’t tell this to anyone!’ (verses 28-30)

Read Matthew 9:27-34

Sometimes people aren’t aware that they are colour blind, that they can’t see certain colours or that they see them incorrectly. But the two blind men who asked Jesus for help were only too aware of their disability. They were also confident about what Jesus could do for them. By addressing Jesus as ‘Son of David’, they showed that they understood that he was the Messiah. Jesus’ repuation had preceded him, and the men knew that he was the one to help them.

Are there areas in your life where you are blind and in need of healing? Maybe you are blind to

  • indifference you feel towards those in need around you
  • accepting mediocrity in what you do
  • half-hearted efforts in your daily worship.

God keeps coming to you to give you faith that opens your spiritual eyes to see God’s abundant mercy and love in action. Keep acknowledging that you are blind. Keep letting Jesus make you see.

Son of David, have mercy on me. Cure my blindness and light the areas of my life that no-one else but you can see. I believe. Amen.
