Laws or love?

The Pharisees, then, asked the man again how he had received his sight. He told them, ‘He put some mud on my eyes; I washed my face, and now I can see.’ Some of the Pharisees said, ‘The man who did this cannot be from God, for he does not obey the Sabbath law.’ (verses… Read more

Alive forever!

They asked Jesus, ‘Were we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon in you?’ ‘I have no demon’, Jesus answered. ‘I honour my Father, but you dishonour me. I am not seeking honour for myself. But there is one who is seeking it and who judges in my favour…. Read more

Bending the knee

They did not understand that Jesus was talking to them about the Father. So he said to them, ‘When you lift up the Son of Man, you will know that “I Am Who I Am”; then you will know that I do nothing on my own authority, but I say only what the father has… Read more

Darkness and light

Jesus spoke to the Pharisees again. ‘I am the light of the world’, he said. ‘Whoever follows me will have the light of the life and will never walk in darkness.’ The Pharisees said to him, ‘Now you are testifying on your own behalf; what you say proves nothing’. ‘No’, Jesus answered, ‘even though I… Read more

Heartfelt

‘Now, this is the covenant that I will make with the people of Israel in the days to come, says the Lord; I will put my laws in their minds    and write them on their hearts. I will be their God,    and they will be my people … I will forgive their sins… Read more

Death is dead

Jesus looked up and said, ‘I thank you, Father, that you listen to me. I know that you always listen to me, but I say this for the sake of the people here, so that they will believe that you sent me.’ After he had said this, he called out in a loud voice, ‘Lazarus,… Read more

Healed, forgiven

From the depths of my despair I call to you, LORD. Hear my cry, O LORD; listen to my call for help! If you kept a record of our sins, who could escape being condemned? But you forgive us, so that we should stand in awe of you. (verses 1-4) (read Psalm 130) ‘God, forgive… Read more

No middle ground

by Linda Macqueen

Some of the people in the crowd heard him say this and said, ‘This man is really the Prophet!’ Others said, ‘He is the Messiah!’ But others said, ‘The Messiah will not come from Galilee! The scripture says that the Messiah will be a descendant of King David and will be born in Bethlehem, the… Read more

Not what you’d expect

by Linda Macqueen

As Jesus taught in the Temple, he said in a loud voice, ‘Do you really know me and know where I am from? I have not come on my own authority. He who sent me, however, is truthful. You do not know him, but I know him, because I come from him and he sent… Read more

Broken families, broken hearts

by Linda Macqueen

The time for the Festival of Shelters was near, so Jesus’ brothers said to him, ‘Leave this place and go to Judea, so that your followers will see the things that you are doing. People don’t hide what they are doing if they want to be well known. Since you are doing these things, let… Read more
