Daily Devotion

Start or finish each day in God’s word, with devotions written by LCA/NZ members specifically for these challenging times. Sign up to receive Daily Devotion in your inbox every morning. Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

Irrepressible

What a rich harvest your goodness provides! Wherever you go there is plenty. The pastures are filled with flocks; the hillsides are full of joy. The land is covered with sheep; the valleys are full of wheat. Everything shouts and sings for joy. (verses 11-13) Read Psalm 65:1-13 Humankind has done a lot to destroy… Read more

Ready

After Jesus finished saying this, he looked up to heaven and said, ‘Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your Son, so that the Son may give glory to you. For you gave him authority over all people, so that he might give eternal life to all those you gave him. And eternal life… Read more

It’s in the bag

Jesus answered them, ‘Do you believe now? The time is coming, and is already here, when all of you will be scattered, each of you to your own home, and I will be left all alone. But I am not really alone, because the Father is with me. I have told you this so that… Read more

God still with us

‘I did not tell you these things at the beginning, for I was with you. But now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me where I am going. And now that I have told you, your hearts are full of sadness. But I am telling you the truth:… Read more

What are friends for?

‘I do not call you servants any longer, because servants do not know what their master is doing. Instead, I call you friends, because I have told you everything I heard from my Father. You did not choose me; I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit, the kind of fruit that… Read more

Asking for God’s sake

‘If you remain in me and my words remain in you, then you will ask for anything you wish, and you shall have it. My Father’s glory is shown by your bearing a lot of fruit; and in this way you become my disciples. I love you just as the Father loves me; remain in… Read more

Expect the unexpected

At that time Jesus said, ‘Father, Lord of heaven and earth! I thank you because you have shown to the unlearned what you have hidden from the wise and learned. Yes, Father, this was how you wanted it to happen. ‘My Father has given me all things. No one knows the Son except the Father,… Read more

Good God

The LORD is loving and merciful, slow to become angry and full of constant love. He is good to everyone   and has compassion on all he made. (verses 8,9) Read Psalm 145:8-14 A young student recently complained to me that he thought God wasn’t pulling his weight in the world. Like a lot of… Read more

Some gift!

‘If you love me, you will obey my commandments. I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you for ever. He is the Spirit, who reveals the truth about God. The world cannot receive him, because it cannot see him or know him. But you know him,… Read more

Cross-road to God

Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going; so how can we know the way to get there?’ Jesus answered him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me. Now that you have known me,’ he said to them, ‘you… Read more
