Daily Devotion

Start or finish each day in God’s word, with devotions written by LCA/NZ members specifically for these challenging times. Sign up to receive Daily Devotion in your inbox every morning. Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

Being what we are in Christ

You must remove the old yeast of sin so that you will be entirely pure. Then you will be like a new batch of dough without any yeast, as indeed I know you actually are. For our Passover Festival is ready, now that Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Let us celebrate our Passover,… Read more

Speaking the truth… in love

I write this to you, not because I want to make you feel ashamed, but to instruct you as my own dear children. For even if you have ten thousand guardians in your Christian life, you have only one father. For in your life in union with Christ Jesus I have become your father by… Read more

The judge who chose not to judge

You should think of us as Christ’s servants, who have been put in charge of God’s secret truths. The one thing required of such servants is that they be faithful to their master. Now, I am not at all concerned about being judged by you or by any human standard; I don’t even pass judgment… Read more

Real wisdom

You should not fool yourself. If any of you think that you are wise by this world’s standards, you should become a fool, in order to be really wise. For what this world considers to be wisdom is nonsense in God’s sight. As the scripture says, ‘God traps the wise in their cleverness’; and another… Read more

Mature in the gospel

I had to feed you milk, not solid food, because you were not ready for it. And even now you are not ready for it, because you still live as the people of this world live. When there is jealousy among you and you quarrel with one another, doesn’t this prove that you belong to… Read more

Unexpected!

Jesus told them another parable: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is like this. A man takes a mustard seed and plants it in the ground. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it grows up, it is the biggest of all plants. It becomes a tree, so that birds come and make their… Read more

His master’s voice

Your teachings are wonderful; I obey them with all my heart. The explanation of your teachings gives light, and brings wisdom to the ignorant. In my desire for your commands I pant with open mouth. (verses 129-131) Read Psalm 119:129-136 The recording company His Master’s Voice (HMV) used as its logo the picture of a… Read more

Power for the powerless

For while I was with you, I made up my mind to forget everything except Jesus Christ and especially his death on the cross. So when I came to you, I was weak and trembled all over with fear, and my teaching and message were not delivered with skilful words of human wisdom, but with… Read more

Who are the chosen?

Now remember what you were, my friends, when God called you. From the human point of view few of you were wise or powerful or of high social standing. God purposely chose what the world considers nonsense in order to shame the wise, and he chose what the world considers weak in order to shame… Read more

Transformed!

Christ did not send me to baptise. He sent me to tell the Good News, and to tell it without using the language of human wisdom, in order to make sure that Christ’s death on the cross is not robbed of its power. For the message about Christ’s death on the cross is nonsense to… Read more
