Daily Devotion

Start or finish each day in God’s word, with devotions written by LCA/NZ members specifically for these challenging times. Sign up to receive Daily Devotion in your inbox every morning. Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

Knowing your place

So Jesus went with them. He was not far from the house when the officer sent friends to tell him, ‘Sir, don’t trouble yourself. I do not deserve to have you come into my house, neither do I consider myself worthy to come to you in person. Just give the order, and my servant will get… Read more

From death to life

But God’s mercy is so abundant, and his love for us is so great, that while we were spiritually dead in our disobedience he brought us to life with Christ. It is by God’s grace that you have been saved. In our union with Christ Jesus he raised us up to rule with him in… Read more

God rescues

Then in their trouble they called to the LORD, and he saved them from their distress. He healed them with his command and saved them from the grave. They must thank the LORD for his constant love, for the wonderful things he did for them.  (verses 19-21) Read Psalm 107: 1-3, 17-22 In these verses… Read more

From the heart

‘A healthy tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a poor tree bear good fruit. Every tree is known by the fruit it bears –  you do not pick figs from thornbushes or gather grapes from bramble bushes. A good person brings good out of the treasure of good things in his heart; a… Read more

God’s measuring tape: you

‘Do not judge others, and God will not judge you; do not condemn others, and God will not condemn you; forgive others, and God will forgive you. Give to others, and God will give to you. Indeed, you will receive a full measure, a generous helping, poured into your hands – all that you can… Read more

On the level

When Jesus had come down from the hill with the apostles, he stood on a level place with a large number of his disciples. A large crowd of people was there from Jerusalem and from all over Judea and from the coastal cities of Tyre and Sidon; they had come to hear him and to… Read more

Your everyday God

Some Pharisees asked, ‘Why are you doing what our Law says you cannot do on the Sabbath?’ Jesus answered them, ‘Haven’t you read what David did when he and his men were hungry? He went into the house of God, took the bread offered to God, ate it, and gave it to his men too…. Read more

Jesus, soul doctor

Then Levi had a big feast in his house for Jesus, and among the guests was a large number of tax collectors and other people. Some Pharisees and some teachers of the Law who belonged to their group complained to Jesus’ disciples. ‘Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and other outcasts?’ they… Read more

How odd of God

As for us, we proclaim the crucified Christ, a message that is offensive to the Jews and nonsense to the Gentiles; but for those whom God has called, both Jews and Gentiles, this message is Christ, who is the power of God and the wisdom of God. For what seems to be God’s foolishness is… Read more

Sounds of silence

How clearly the sky reveals God’s glory! How plainly it shows what he has done! Each day announces it to the following day; each night repeats it to the next.   (verses 1, 2) Read Psalm 19 Francis of Assisi once said, ‘Preach always, and, if necessary, use words’. We recognise the wisdom of this when… Read more
