Daily Devotion

Start or finish each day in God’s word, with devotions written by LCA/NZ members specifically for these challenging times. Sign up to receive Daily Devotion in your inbox every morning. Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

Why did God let it happen?

Esau said, ‘This is the second time that he has cheated me. No wonder his name is Jacob. He took my rights as the firstborn son, and now he has taken away my blessing. Haven’t you saved a blessing for me?’ Isaac answered, ‘I have already made him master over you, and I have made… Read more

Good enough

Jesus, then, is the High Priest that meets our needs. He is holy; he has no fault or sin in him; he has been set apart from sinners and raised above the heavens. He is not like other high priests; he does not need to offer sacrifices every day for his own sins first and… Read more

Painful planting, happy harvest

Let those who wept as they planted their crops, gather the harvest with joy! Those who wept as they went out carrying the seed will come back singing for joy, as they bring in the harvest. (verses 5, 6) Read Psalm 126 If you are a farmer, you may understand better than others the painful… Read more

Your will be done

She put the skins of the goats on his arms and on the hairless part of his neck. She handed him the tasty food, along with the bread she had baked. Then Jacob went to his father and said, ‘Father!’ ‘Yes’, he answered. ‘Which of my sons are you?’ Jacob answered, ‘I am your older… Read more

Flawed servants

She was going to have twins, and before they were born, they struggled against each other in her womb. She said, ‘Why should something like this happen to me?’ So she went to ask the LORD for an answer. The LORD said to her, ‘Two nations are within you; You will give birth to two… Read more

A love story we are part of

When Rebecca saw Isaac, she got down from her camel and asked Abraham’s servant, ‘Who is that man walking towards us?’ ‘He is my master’, the servant answered. So she took her scarf and covered her face. The servant told Isaac everything he had done. Then Isaac brought Rebecca into the tent that his mother… Read more

Spare me the details

‘Now, if you intend to fulfil your responsibility towards my master and treat him fairly, please tell me; if not, say so, and I will decide what to do.’ Laban and Bethuel answered, ‘Since this matter comes from the LORD, it is not for us to make a decision. Here is Rebecca; take her and… Read more

Give me a sign

‘I will say to one of them, “Please, lower your jar and let me have a drink”. If she says, “Drink, and I will also bring water for your camels”, may she be the one that you have chosen for your servant Isaac. If this happens, I will know that you have kept your promise… Read more

In search of true greatness

Jesus said to them, ‘You don’t know what you are asking for. Can you drink the cup of suffering that I must drink? Can you be baptised in the way I must be baptised?’ ‘We can’, they answered. Jesus said to them, ‘You will indeed drink the cup I must drink and be baptised in… Read more

Deliver us from evil

God says, ‘I will save those who love me and will protect those who acknowledge me as LORD. When they call to me, I will answer them; when they are in trouble, I will be with them. I will rescue them and honour them. I will reward them with long life; I will save them.’… Read more
