Daily Devotion

Start or finish each day in God’s word, with devotions written by LCA/NZ members specifically for these challenging times. Sign up to receive Daily Devotion in your inbox every morning. Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

Foreknowing

‘I am not talking about all of you; I know those I have chosen. But the scripture must come true that says, “The man who shared my food turned against me.” I tell you this now before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe that “I Am Who I Am.” I… Read more

Dying to live

Jesus answered them, ‘The hour has now come for the Son of Man to receive great glory. I am telling you the truth: a grain of wheat remains no more than a single grain unless it is dropped into the ground and dies. If it does die, then it produces many grains. Those who love… Read more

His holy precious blood

But Christ has already come as the High Priest of the good things that are already here. The tent in which he serves is greater and more perfect; it is not a tent made by human hands, that is, it is not a part of this created world. When Christ went through the tent and… Read more

Our Master’s will

As they were untying the donkey, its owners said to them, ‘Why are you untying it?’  ‘The Master needs it,’ they answered, and they took the donkey to Jesus. Then they threw their cloaks on the animal and helped Jesus get on. As he rode on, people spread their cloaks on the road. (verses 33-36)… Read more

On being a success

Save us, LORD, save us! Give us success, O LORD! May God bless the one who comes in the name of the LORD! From the Temple of the LORD we bless you. The LORD is God; he has been good to us. With branches in your hands, start the festival and march around the altar…. Read more

Asking favours of God

Then the wife of Zebedee came to Jesus with her two sons, bowed before him, and asked him a favour. ‘What do you want?’ Jesus asked her. She answered, ‘Promise me that these two sons of mine will sit at your right and your left when you are King.’ ‘You don’t know what you are… Read more

God’s generosity

‘When evening came, the owner told his foreman, “Call the workers and pay them their wages, starting with those who were hired last and ending with those who were hired first.” The men who had begun to work at five o’clock were paid a silver coin each. So when the men who were the first… Read more

For God everything is possible

‘I repeat: it is much harder for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle.’ When the disciples heard this, they were completely amazed. ‘Who, then, can be saved?’ they asked. Jesus looked straight at them and answered, ‘This is impossible for… Read more

God’s faithfulness

Jesus answered, ‘Moses gave you permission to divorce your wives because you are so hard to teach. But it was not like that at the time of creation. I tell you, then, that any man who divorces his wife for any cause other than her unfaithfulness, commits adultery if he marries’ some other woman.’ (verses… Read more

Forgive us our sins

‘The servant did not have enough to pay his debt, so the king ordered him to be sold as a slave, with his wife and his children and all that he had, in order to pay the debt. The servant fell on his knees before the king. “Be patient with me,” he begged, “and I… Read more
