God’s faithfulness
Jesus answered, ‘Moses gave you permission to divorce your wives because you are so hard to teach. But it was not like that at the time of creation. I tell you, then, that any man who divorces his wife for any cause other than her unfaithfulness, commits adultery if he marries’ some other woman.’ (verses 8,9)
Read Matthew 19:1-15
At the time of creation, when God made the first man and woman, he made them to be together. It was not God who invented divorce but human beings. God wants husbands and wives to love each other, to be faithful to each other, and to be together.
This tells you something important about God: he is faithful. Human beings may have fights, split up, and be bitter and resentful to each other. But God is different. He is faithful and will stick by people, even when they treat him with contempt or indifference or bitterness.
God will always stick by you. One thing’s for sure: God will never want to split apart from you or divorce you. His love for you is so strong that not even death can smother it.
God, thank you for standing by me. Give me the strength to be faithful to you. Amen.
