Singapore Lutherans welcome new bishop
The Right Reverend Lu Guan Hoe is the new bishop of LCANZ overseas partner church Lutheran Church in Singapore (LCS). Bishop Lu, who succeeds Bishop Terry Kee Buck Hwa, was installed as the third bishop of the LCS on 26 June.

Domestic violence research project seeks participants
The LCANZ is seeking to gain knowledge on ways in which religious beliefs and practices are used by some men to perpetrate domestic violence. The research has been commissioned by the church’s Campaign for the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence task force.

LWF elects Estonian pastor as new general secretary
The Lutheran World Federation Council has elected Estonian theologian Rev Anne Burghardt to be its next General Secretary. She will be the first woman and the first Central-Eastern European to hold this leadership position for the global communion of Lutheran churches.

Change in format for General Synod
In a first for the LCANZ, the church’s next Convention of General Synod will be held in two parts – an online meeting in October 2021 and an in-person meeting in 2022.

Changes to General Synod
The GCB has agreed to hold the 20th regular Convention of General Synod in two parts: an online meeting in early October 2021, which will then be adjourned until the meeting resumes in-person at a location to be determined in 2022.

Century up for LCA’s oldest living pastor
Pastor Colin Scheer, the LCA’s oldest living pastor, turned 100 on 27 May and marked the occasion with a visit from his sister Val Kriewaldt and brother Kevin Scheer, who travelled from South Australia to be with him at St Paul’s Lutheran Aged Care at Caboolture in Queensland.
