Daily Devotion

Start or finish each day in God’s word, with devotions written by LCA/NZ members specifically for these challenging times. Sign up to receive Daily Devotion in your inbox every morning. Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

Plan A and plan B

LORD, who may enter your Temple? Who may worship on Zion, your sacred hill? Those who obey God in everything and always do what is right, whose words are true and sincere, and who do not slander others. They do no wrong to their friends and do not spread rumours about their neighbours. (verses 1-3)… Read more

God does not give up on you

The LORD says, ‘Let my people return to me. Remove every obstacle from their path! Build the road and make it ready! I am the high and holy God, who lives for ever. I live in a high and holy place, but I also live with people who are humble and repentant, so that I… Read more

If you say so

When he finished speaking, he said to Simon, ‘Push the boat out further to the deep water, and you and your partners let down your nets for a catch’. ‘Master’, Simon answered, ‘we worked hard all night long and caught nothing. But if you say so, I will let down the nets.’ They let them… Read more

Chosen

Then Jesus went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath he went as usual to the synagogue. He stood up to read the Scriptures and was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it is written, ‘The Spirit of the LORD… Read more

Shine on me

Our God is merciful and tender. He will cause the bright dawn of salvation to rise on us and to shine from heaven on all those who live in the dark shadow of death, to guide our steps into the path of peace. (verses 78,79) Read Luke 1: 68-79 Those without faith in Christ are… Read more

God’s presence shines in you

Arise, Jerusalem, and shine like the sun; The glory of the LORD is shining on you! Other nations will be covered by darkness, But on you the light of the LORD will shine; The brightness of his presence will be with you. Nations will be drawn to your light, And kings to the dawning of… Read more

The challenge

From that time Jesus began to preach his message: ‘Turn away from your sins, because the Kingdom of heaven is near!’ As Jesus walked along the shore of Lake Galilee, he saw two brothers who were fishermen, Simon (called Peter) and his brother Andrew, catching fish in the lake with a net. Jesus said to… Read more

Tiggy

I have asked the LORD for one thing; one thing only do I want: to live in the LORD’S house all my life, to marvel there at his goodness, and to ask for his guidance. In times of trouble he will shelter me; he will keep me safe in his Temple and make me secure… Read more

The one who is worthy

Then I saw a Lamb standing in the centre of the throne, surrounded by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb appeared to have been killed. It had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God that have been sent throughout the whole earth. The Lamb went and took… Read more

Adventuring together

The Holy Spirit said to Philip, ‘Go over to that carriage and stay close to it’. Philip ran over and heard him reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah. He asked him, ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ The official replied, ‘How can I understand unless someone explains it to me?’ And he… Read more
