Daily Devotion

Start or finish each day in God’s word, with devotions written by LCA/NZ members specifically for these challenging times. Sign up to receive Daily Devotion in your inbox every morning. Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

God will provide a lamb

‘Take your son’, God said, ‘your only son, Isaac, whom you love so much, and go to the land of Moriah. There on a mountain that I will show you, offer him as a sacrifice to me.’ Early the next morning Abraham cut some wood for the sacrifice, loaded his donkey, and took Isaac and… Read more

So hungry you could eat a horse

Then the Spirit led Jesus into the desert to be tempted by the Devil. After spending forty days and nights without food, Jesus was hungry. Then the Devil came to him and said, ‘If you are God’s Son, order these stones to turn into bread.’ But Jesus answered, ‘The scripture says, “Human beings cannot live… Read more

A hiding place

So all your loyal people should pray to you in times of need; when a great flood of trouble comes rushing in, it will not reach them. You are my hiding place; you will save me from trouble. I sing aloud of your salvation, because you protect me. (verses 6,7) Read Psalm 32 For two… Read more

The sky’s the limit

‘How long has he been like this?’ Jesus asked the father. ‘Ever since he was a child’, he replied. ‘Many times the evil spirit has tried to kill him by throwing him in the fire and into water. Have pity on us and help us, if you possibly can!’ ‘Yes’, said Jesus, ‘if you yourself… Read more

How much is enough?

‘The kind of fasting I want is this: Remove the chains of oppression and the yoke of injustice, and let the oppressed go free. Share your food with the hungry and open your homes to the homeless poor. Give clothes to those who have nothing to wear, and do not refuse to help your own… Read more

God looks at the heart

‘So when you give something to a needy person, do not make a big show of it, as the hypocrites do in the houses of worship and on the streets. They do it so that people will praise them. I assure you, they have already been paid in full. But when you help a needy… Read more

Name change

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. (verse 16) Read 2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1 Our church changed names recently. We wanted a name that better reflected the community we lived in and served. This was a little unusual, but not unheard of… Read more

Blameless and upright

There was a man named Job, living in the land of Uz, who worshipped God and was faithful to him. He was a good man, careful not to do anything evil. (verse 1) Read Job 1:1-22 Job’s character is very important to note because it pleased God. Other Bible versions call Job ‘blameless’ and ‘righteous’…. Read more

Who is this Jesus?

Six days later Jesus took with him Peter and the brothers James and John and led them up a high mountain where they were alone. As they looked on, a change came over Jesus: his face was shining like the sun, and his clothes were dazzling white. Then the three disciples saw Moses and Elijah… Read more

Forgiveness

O Lord, our God, you answered your people;    you showed them that you are a God who forgives,    even though you punished them for their sins. Praise the Lord our God,    and worship at his sacred hill!    The Lord our God is holy. (verses 8,9) Read Psalm 99 Forgiveness is never… Read more
