Daily Devotion

Start or finish each day in God’s word, with devotions written by LCA/NZ members specifically for these challenging times. Sign up to receive Daily Devotion in your inbox every morning. Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

Are you ready for true wisdom?

‘At that time the Kingdom of heaven will be like this. Once there were ten young women who took their oil lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and the other five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any extra oil with them,… Read more

Save me!

May all who come to you be glad and joyful. May all who are thankful for your salvation always say, ‘How great is God!’ I am weak and poor; come to me quickly, O God. You are my saviour and my Lord – hurry to my aid!    (verses 4,5) Read Psalm 70 The psalm writer knows… Read more

The suffering God knows

He took Peter, James, and John with him. Distress and anguish came over him, and he said to them, ‘The sorrow in my heart is so great that it almost crushes me. Stay here and keep watch.’ He went a little further on, threw himself on the ground, and prayed that, if possible, he might… Read more

Never say never?

While they were at the table eating, Jesus said, ‘I tell you that one of you will betray me-one who is eating with me’. The disciples were upset, and began to ask him, one after the other, ‘Surely you don’t mean me, do you?’ Jesus answered, ‘It will be one of you twelve, one who… Read more

Extravagant worship

While Jesus was eating, a woman came in with an alabaster jar full of a very expensive perfume made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on Jesus’ head. Some of the people there became angry and said to one another, ‘What was the use of wasting the perfume? It could… Read more

Keeping my eyes on you

‘It will be like a man who goes away from home on a journey and leaves his servants in charge, after giving to each one his own work to do and after telling the doorkeeper to keep watch. Watch, then, because you do not know when the master of the house is coming-it might be in… Read more

Not doom but deliverance

‘In the days after that time of trouble the sun will grow dark, the moon will no longer shine, the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers in space will be driven from their courses. Then the Son of Man will appear, coming in the clouds with great power and glory. He will send… Read more

Context

‘You must not be called “Teacher”, because you are all equal and have only one Teacher. And you must not call anyone here on earth “Father”, because you have only the one Father in heaven. Nor should you be called “Leader”, because your one and only leader is the Messiah.’  (verses 8-11) Read Matthew 23:… Read more

Tough times

Send me your light and your truth; may they lead me and bring me back to Zion, your sacred hill, and to your Temple, where you live. Then I will go to your altar,0 God; you are the source of my happiness. I will play my harp and sing praise to you, O God, my God.     (verses… Read more

Trouble – a sign of faith

‘You yourselves must watch out. You will be arrested and taken to court. You will be beaten in the synagogues; you will stand before rulers and kings for my sake to tell them the Good News. But before the end comes, the gospel must be preached to all peoples. And when you are arrested and… Read more
