Daily Devotion

Start or finish each day in God’s word, with devotions written by LCA/NZ members specifically for these challenging times. Sign up to receive Daily Devotion in your inbox every morning. Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

Like Hamlet

“‘I am the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” Moses trembled with fear and dared not look. The Lord said to him, “Take your sandals off, for the place where you are standing is holy ground. I have seen the cruel suffering of my people in Egypt. I have heard… Read more

The new pharaoh

‘At last a king who did not know about Joseph began to rule in Egypt. He tricked our ancestors and was cruel to them, forcing them to put their babies out of their homes, so that they would die. It was at this time that Moses was born, a very beautiful child. He was cared… Read more

My grace is all you need

Three times I prayed to the Lord about this and asked him to take it away. But his answer was: ‘My grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak.’ I am most happy, then, to be proud of my weaknesses, in order to feel the protection of Christ’s power… Read more

Connected

For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. (verse 14) Read Psalm 48 For centuries human hearts have known the loneliness of being separated from God, and being separated from each other. Many others have known what we experience today. There is a way… Read more

Grace under pressure

All those sitting in the Council fixed their eyes on Stephen and saw that his face looked like the face of an angel. The High Priest asked Stephen, ‘Is this true?’ Stephen answered, ‘Brothers and fathers, listen to me! Before our ancestor Abraham had gone to live in Haran, the God of glory appeared to… Read more

Funny about money

So the twelve apostles called the whole group of believers together and said, ‘It is not right for us to neglect the preaching of God’s word in order to handle finances. So then, friends, choose seven men among you who are known to be full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, and we will put… Read more

Badges of honour

They called the apostles in, had them whipped, and ordered them never again to speak in the name of Jesus; and then they set them free. As the apostles left the Council, they were happy, because God had considered them worthy to suffer disgrace for the sake of Jesus. And every day in the Temple… Read more

No genie in a bottle

They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. But that night an angel of the LORD opened the prison gates, led the apostles out, and said to them, ‘Go and stand in the Temple, and tell the people all about this new life.’ The apostles obeyed, and at dawn they entered the… Read more

Not shooting, just waving

With great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God poured rich blessings on them all. There was no one in the group who was in need. Those who owned land or houses would sell them, bring the money received from the sale, and hand it over to the… Read more

Get-rich scheme

I am not laying down any rules. But by showing how eager others are to help, I am trying to find out how real your own love is. You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ; rich as he was, he made himself poor for your sake, in order to make you rich by… Read more
