Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

Live wisely, live well

So be careful how you live. Don’t live like ignorant people, but like wise people … Speak to one another with the words of psalms, hymns and sacred songs; sing hymns and psalms to the Lord with praise in your hearts. (verses 15,19) Read Ephesians 5:15-20 Plenty of people try to tell you how to… Read more

The young lions

Honour the LORD, all his people those who obey him have all they need. Even lions go hungry for lack of food, but those who obey the LORD lack nothing good. (verses 9,10) Read Psalm 34:9-14 Of all the animals in the jungle the lion was the most powerful. He spent his days among his… Read more

There is always hope with Jesus

The jailer called for a light, rushed in, and fell trembling at the feet of Paul and Silas. Then he led them out and asked, ‘Sirs, what must I do to be saved?’ They answered, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved – you and your family.’ Then they preached the word… Read more

The power of Jesus’ name

One day as we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a young servant woman who had an evil spirit that enabled her to predict the future. She earned a lot of money for her owners by telling fortunes. She followed Paul and us, shouting, ‘These men are servants of the… Read more

What does Jesus want you to do?

That night Paul had a vision in which he saw a Macedonian standing and begging him, ‘Come over to Macedonia and help us!’ As soon as Paul had this vision, we got ready to leave for Macedonia, because we decided that God had called us to preach the Good News to the people there. (verses… Read more

Don’t let your anger lead you into sin

There was a sharp argument, and they separated: Barnabas took Mark and sailed off for Cyprus, while Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the believers to the care of the Lord’s grace. He went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches. (verses 39-41) Read Acts 15:36-16:5 Arguments are rarely if ever wholesome and if… Read more

Encourage one another

The messengers were sent off and went to Antioch, where they gathered the whole group of believers and gave them the letter. When the people read it, they were filled with joy by the message of encouragement. Judas and Silas, who were themselves prophets, spoke a long time with them, giving them courage and strength…. Grumblings and bread

The people started grumbling about him, because he said, ‘I am the bread that came down from heaven’. So they said, ‘This man is Jesus son of Joseph, isn’t he? We know his father and mother. How, then, does he now say he came down from heaven?’ Jesus answered, ‘Stop grumbling among yourselves. People cannot… Read more

Cries and answers

I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me; he freed me from all my fears. The oppressed look to him and are glad; they will never be disappointed. The helpless call to him, and he answers; he saves them from all their troubles. (verses 4-6) Read Psalm 34:1-8 It’s part of the experience of… Read more

Everybody’s equal

‘It is my opinion,’ James went on, ‘that we should not trouble the Gentiles who are turning to God. Instead, we should write a letter telling them not to eat any food that is ritually unclean because it has been offered to idols; to keep themselves from sexual immorality; and not to eat any animal… Read more
