Daily Devotion

Start or finish each day in God’s word, with devotions written by LCA/NZ members specifically for these challenging times. Sign up to receive Daily Devotion in your inbox every morning. Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

Tragedy into triumph

The princess told the woman, ‘Take this baby and feed him for me, and I will pay you.’ So she took the baby and fed him. Later, when the child was old enough, she took him to the king’s daughter, who adopted him as her own son. She said to herself, ‘I pulled him out… Read more

Learning the lessons of history

But the more the Egyptians oppressed the Israelites, the more they increased in number and the further they spread through the land. The Egyptians came to fear the Israelites and made their lives miserable by forcing them into cruel slavery. They made them work on their building projects and on their land, and they had… Read more

And still we are blessed

Put yourselves to the test and judge yourselves, to find out whether you are living in faith. Surely you know that Christ Jesus is m you?—unless you have completely failed. I trust you will know that we are not failures. We pray to God that you will do no wrong—not in order to show that… Read more

‘I can only say this because I love you’

The many miracles and wonders that prove that I am an apostle were performed among you with much patience. How were you treated any worse than the other churches, except that I did not bother you for financial help? Please forgive me for being so unfair! This is now the third time that I am… Read more

Lifted to glory

‘Father! You have given them to me, and I want them to be with me where I am, so that they may see my glory, the glory you gave me; for you loved me before the world was made. Righteous Father! The world does not know you, but I know you, and these know that… Read more

So what has changed?

The LORD loves those who hate evil; he protects the lives of his people; he rescues them from the power of the wicked. Light shines on the righteous, and gladness on the good. (verses 10,11) Read Psalm 97 These psalms of praise from the Old Testament era show that those people had much to praise… Read more

The positive side of pain

But to keep me from being puffed up with pride because of the many wonderful things I saw, I was given a painful physical ailment, which acts as Satan’s messenger to beat me and keep me from being proud. Three times I prayed to the Lord about this and asked him to take it away…. Read more

Crown him with many crowns

Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, and said to them, ‘This is what is written: the Messiah must suffer and must rise from death three days later and in his name the message about repentance and the forgiveness of sins must be preached to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem. You are witnesses… Read more

Back where you belong

The LORD said to my lord, the king, ‘Sit here on my right until I put your enemies under your feet.’ From Zion the LORD will extend your royal power. ‘Rule over your enemies,’ he says. (verses 1,2) Read Psalm 110 In history and literature there are many stories about the restoration of kings. After… Read more

A book and its cover

But if anyone dares to boast about something—I am talking like a fool—I will be just as daring. Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they Abraham’s descendants? So am I. Are they Christ’s servants? I sound like a madman—but I am a better servant than they are! I… Read more
