Daily Devotion

Start or finish each day in God’s word, with devotions written by LCA/NZ members specifically for these challenging times. Sign up to receive Daily Devotion in your inbox every morning. Permission is granted to print and publish these devotions with this acknowledgement: ‘Reproduced with permission: Lutheran Church of Australia 2022’. If possible, please provide a link to the Daily Devotion archive page: www.lca.org.au/daily-devotion. LCA Communications is producing a week of devotions in advance in ready-to-print format for congregations to deliver to members. To receive a link to the printable sets each week, simply ask us, at lca.comms@lca.org.au. Click here to find the print versions of Daily Devotion. The Daily Devotions project is supported by the LCA Special Ministry Fund, which is made possible by the generous financial assistance of the LLL.

Decisions, decisions

Joseph was a man who always did what was right, but he not want to disgrace Mary publicly; so he made plans to break off the engagement privately. While he was thinking about this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph, descendant of David, do not be afraid… Read more

Our nation

Listen to us, O Shepherd of Israel; hear us, leader of your flock. Seated on your throne above the winged creatures, reveal yourself to the tribes of Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manassah. Show us your strength; come and save us! Bring us back, O God! Show us your mercy, and we will be saved! (verses 1-3)… Read more

What if God was one of us?

Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago. (verse 1) Read Isaiah 25:1-9 On her 1996 album, Relish, Joan Osborne sung that hit song, ‘One of Us’. The question: “What if God was one of us?” was… Read more

The Supreme Ruler

Howl in pain! The day of the Lord is near, the day when the Almighty brings destruction. Everyone’s hands will hang limp, and everyone’s courage will fail. They will all be terrified and overcome with pain, like the pain of a woman in labour. They will look at each other with fear, and their faces… Read more

Signs of life

The royal line of David is like a tree that has been cut down; but just as new branches sprout from a stump, so a new king will arise from among David’s descendants. The spirit of the Lord will give him wisdom and the knowledge and skill to rule his people. He will know the… Read more

Good news

Jesus answered, ‘Go back and tell John what you are hearing and seeing: the blind can see, the lame can walk, those who suffer from dreaded skin diseases are made clean, the deaf hear, the dead are brought back to life, and the Good News is preached to the poor. How happy are those who… Read more

Here he is – your God

Happy are those who have the God of Jacob to help them and who depend on the Lord their God, the Creator of heaven, earth, and sea, and all that is in them. He always keeps his promises; he judges in favour of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. (verses 5-7a) Read Psalm… Read more
