What a God!
There is no other God like you, O Lord; you forgive the sins of your people who have survived. You do not stay angry for ever, but you take pleasure in showing us your constant love. You will be merciful to us once again. You will trample our sins underfoot and send them to the bottom of the sea! You will show your faithfulness and constant love to your people, the descendents of Abraham and of Jacob, as you promised our ancestors long ago. (verses 18-20)
Read Micah 7:11-20
God is a God of new beginnings. His Old Testament people knew they deserved punishment for their faithlessness and rebellion. But his mercy shines through the dark clouds of his anger (Micah 7:8,9).
Exodus 20:5,6 says the ratio of God’s anger to his mercy is three to a thousand. Sins are thrown into the depths of the ocean, never more to be made present in God’s memory. (The deepest sea is more than eleven kilometres deep.) It’s mind boggling. For Jesus’ sake God takes pleasure in showing love that never gives up.
Thank you, faithful God, that you stomp on my sins and never miss the target. Amen.
