What excites Pastor Nathan Hedt from Pakenham Victoria the most is seeing ‘the lights go on’ in people when they understand the good news of Jesus Christ.

He speaks of that powerful moment when they realise, ‘Wow, God means me. In what he did in Jesus, he means me’.

When someone has an encounter with God, it’s not just a single thing, Pastor Nathan says. Sometimes it’s a long process, with moments happening before and after that encounter. But the Spirit is always working in the background.

He says it’s important to help people to discover what their gifts are and how they fit into the body of Christ ‘ecosystem’.

‘Some people might have a lightbulb moment, where they go, “I’m not an evangelist, but I can pray for people who don’t know Jesus yet. I can pray for the evangelists when they get together with those people”. Or they might have a lightbulb moment when they go, “Actually, what I’m really good at is opening up my home. I love doing meals for people”.

‘We’re not all the same shape’, Pastor Nathan says, ‘but the shape that you are is important. God has put you where you are for a purpose.

‘We are the body of Christ, which means that, as the church, we are the concrete thing that Jesus uses to get stuff done in this world.’
