Jennifer Cruz from Wyndham missional community in Victoria can talk easily about most things, but when it comes to talking about God, she has a harder time.

It’s something that she has struggled with her whole life. But when she started working in relational ministry, God revealed to her that she needed to work on her self-doubt.

‘I kept thinking, “God, I don’t know the Scriptures that well. My walk with you isn’t quite where it needs to be at the moment”’, Jennifer says.

She heard God say to her, ‘Don’t worry about it, because it’s my work through you. It’s not what you’re doing for me – it’s what I’m doing through you to the people that you’re interacting with. You need to rest in that’.

Jennifer realised it wasn’t about her – and God had it under control. All she had to do was have everyday conversations with people in everyday life.

‘Relational ministry is about meeting someone where they are and sharing God’s love with them through everyday activities – going out for a cup of coffee, inviting someone to go shopping with you, watching a movie together and discussing it, and sharing a bit of God’s perspective in that conversation’, Jennifer says.

‘The closer you get to someone, the more they will see God through you.’

Jennifer says it’s easy for all of us to get stuck in our shell and find it hard to talk about our faith, but God calls us to trust in him.

‘When it’s time, God will give you the words. His Spirit is with us. It’s not an instant thing, but it’s something that I remember each time I’m struggling or having those doubts. God says, “Just be there, because I’m going to do the work”’.
