A picture of true reconciliation

8 January 2019

In recognition of the church’s commitment to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), young Lutheran artist Henry recently presented LCA Bishop John Henderson with a painting about reconciliation.

Entitled ‘Many Eyes’, Henry says the painting ‘is about how there is one God and there are lots of people… we are all different – that’s a good thing – because we can all see different parts of God and share that with each other… that way we can all learn from each other and love God at the same time’.

Henry’s own family legacy extends from Wangkangurru country in northern South Australia to Eastern Aranda (Arrernte) country in the Hart Ranges in the Northern Territory.

The LCA will become the first national church in Australia to develop a RAP, as part of its commitment to better hear, recognise and support Aboriginal people in the church. At the General Convention in Sydney last October, Synod called on the LCA’s General Church Board, ‘to develop and implement a RAP’ and to commit the necessary resources to prepare and deliver the plan, and report to the 2021 General Convention.
