Your life in Christ never ends
A thousand years to you are like one day;
they are like yesterday, already gone,
like a short hour in the night.
You carry us away like a flood;
we last no longer than a dream.
We are like weeds that sprout in the morning,
that grow and burst into bloom,
then dry up and die in the evening. (verses 4-6)
Read Psalm 90:1-12
I have come to the conclusion that there will always be some weeds in my garden. Year after year they appear. They have their few weeks of glory. They grow vigorously, along come the flowers, then the dried up leaves-and they’re gone.
Your life is like that too. Who doesn’t smile at the energy of youth and all that it promises? You grow, you work, you play, you burst into bloom and laugh. But evening is never far away, when the flower closes its cup and the leaves fold and finally dry up.
Remember this: you have a God who is above all this, a God who is eternal. He is in control of everything. When he gave you Jesus he gave you a future where even your dying is not the end. Your days on earth may be few, but the life that he has given you in Jesus will never end.
Heavenly Father, I know that my time here on earth is brief. Make me wise so that I may always take hold of Jesus, who gives me everlasting life. Amen.
