Trust and obey

2 September 2017

Declare me innocent, 0 LORD,
because
I do what is right and trust you completely.
Examine me and test me, LORD;
judge my desires and thoughts.
Your constant love is my guide;
your faithfulness always leads me.
(verses 1-3)

Read Psalm 26: 1-8

Christians who are nearing the end of their life often radiate an inner peace because of their faith in Jesus. They have let go of things and dreams that once seemed important. They have Christ and his saving work, and that fills them with peace. They have what matters. The psalm writer had that kind of trust in God.

Trusting God and putting him first is what gives you peace. When he invites you to come and follow him, when he tells you to place your heavy load on him – and you do it, for no other reason than that it’s the Lord who tells you to do it – then he comes with his peace. Trusting him always means following him and going wherever he takes you.

Trust and obey,
for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus,
but to trust and obey. (John H Sammis, 1846-1919)

Father, you are so good to me. I never need to question your love for me. I know that I can trust you, but help me because of my lack of faith. Amen.
