The master’s cup

15 November 2018

Only the man who was found to have the cup will become my servant. (verse 17)

Read Genesis 44:1-17

Joseph, ruler of Egypt was visited again by his brothers. They didn’t recognize him still. They brought their baby brother Benjamin who Joseph loved. When they left Joseph planted into Benjamin’s sack his personal silver cup. Joseph’s men went and stopped the brothers as they left and accused them of stealing the cup. They begged for mercy. Joseph said that ‘Only the man who was found to have the cup will become my servant.’ Benjamin was found with the cup. Who wouldn’t want to be a servant in a royal palace when there was a severe famine in the land?

Jesus also offers us his cup. ‘Take and drink all of you, this cup is the new covenant in my blood which is poured out for you.’ He invites us to follow him and become his servants. Are you living in spiritual famine today or in the Kingdom of heaven with Christ as your Lord and master? Friend, drink and be renewed from the master’s cup.

What is your favourite drinking vessel?

Lord Jesus, thank you for inviting me to follow you and be part of your Kingdom. Amen.
