At a General Convention of Synod at Luther College in Melbourne, I found myself sitting beside Adrienne Jericho. Not only was Adrienne serving as our church’s Executive Director of Lutheran Education Australia at the time, but in 1978 he had also been my Scripture teacher when I was a student.

I am not much of a gardener. I have seen a long line of pot plants sadly wither and die. Thankfully, I married a farmer’s daughter who watches, waters and nurtures plants. It is a joy to observe my wife, Heidi, watering her garden.

When I became the pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church, North Adelaide, some of the parish folk told me the story of the recent time when the church building had been broken into. The thieves took the historic ‘mission field’ crucifix from the altar. Thankfully, it was returned.
