Spread the word

1 January 2020

The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. (verse 20)

Read Luke 2:15-21

After going on a holiday and travelling to see amazing sights, most people return wanting to tell others about what they saw and experienced. Especially on overseas trips where the people they are returning to may not have visited. There are often pictures, videos, and the unexpected adventures that make it look very exciting. It can make you want to travel yourself.

Many years ago when shepherds heard of the birth of the baby Jesus, they were so excited that they went to see him. When they arrived they discovered that everything was how it was described to them. God had told them what to expect and they were amazed. The birth of this little baby was going to change the world. This baby was the saviour of the world.

The birth of a baby is often exciting news. A baby changes the lives of not only the parents, but any siblings, grandparents, family and friends. There is a new life in the world. Over 2,000 years ago the birth of baby Jesus changed the lives of shepherds. The change caused the shepherds to share what they had heard and seen. They didn’t have digital cameras and social media back then to do it. But because of their joy in meeting Jesus and their excitement to tell anyone they met, you and I are meeting Jesus. Through the show and tell of the shepherds all those years ago, we are meeting Jesus through the words in the bible. What great news we hear through the bible that God became one of us in the baby Jesus to save us and give us eternal life. Let’s join with the shepherds and share this amazing news with others.

Thank you God for becoming one of us in Jesus Christ and saving us. Give me the joy the shepherds had to share your great news with others. Amen
