Rising to life

7 September 2017

This is how it will be when the dead are raised to life. When the body is buried, it is mortal; when raised, it will be beautiful and strong. When buried, it is a physical body; when raised, it will be a spiritual body. There is, of course, a physical body, so there has to be a spiritual body.  (verses 42-44)

Read 1 Corinthians 15: 42-50

Watching a moon rise over hills and ocean is a glorious experience. As the atmosphere magnifies and colours it, the golden sphere hangs beautifully in the darkness. Later, the moon returns to its more pallid, small form.

I am most familiar with my pallid form, with the mortal, weak and ugly natural body of Adam that I live and die in. Yet I am reminded here that I also have an immortal, strong and powerful spiritual body, which, through Jesus, I now live in and shall do so eternally.

Today, let us remember the life-giving Spirit in us, the immortal. Let us be strong in faith and action, knowing that, like the moon, we are transformed and renewed each day as we rise to life in Christ.

Lord, renew in me your love today, so that my eternal inheritance may be reflected in my daily life. Amen.
