‘Jesus is the one of whom the scripture says,
“The stone that you the builders despised
turned out to be the most important of all.”
Salvation is to be found through him alone;
in all the world there is no one else whom God
has given who can save us.’
(verses 11, 12)

Read Acts 4: 1-12

It might not seem fair, it might not seem reasonable, it might not seem like love, but the word of God – the entire word of God says that we cannot save ourselves. The Israelites living in slavery could not save themselves. King David, when confronted by his sin, could not save himself. Peter, drowning in the waves, could not save himself. When confronted by a holy God none of us can save ourselves. It needs the holy God who is also the loving God to save us. And that’s what he has done through the Son.

While there are many titles given to Jesus, the simplest and best one is Saviour. And this is the good news: what we could not do, he has done. He has done it for us and for all who honour his name.

Father almighty, thank you for saving me, through your Son, Jesus. Amen.
