Jordanian vicar to study at ALC
Jordanian Lutheran vicar Fursan Zumot has arrived in Australia to complete a 12-month vicarage placement in suburban Adelaide and study at Australian Lutheran College (ALC). Fursan, from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL), has been working as a vicar with the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Jerusalem.
Born into a Christian family in Amman, the capital city of Jordan, he will be gaining LCA experience by working at Semaphore Lutheran Church, in Adelaide’s north-west, and Mawson Lakes Lutheran College and studying theological subjects at ALC.
Pictured above with his wife Rawan Said, Fursan said he was keen to gain an understanding of what it means to be a Christian in Australia during his time in Adelaide.
‘I’m excited about learning more about the Lutheran church in Australia and how Christians live out their faith in Australia’, he said. ‘I’m also here to discern how it is possible to build a bridge between the church in Australia and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land.’ The ELCJHL currently has approximately 3000 members in six congregations.
The church comes under the Asian region of the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), as does the LCA, which is an associate member of the international body.
