Hermannsburg in spotlight
Members of the local Lutheran community at Hermannsburg in Central Australia have featured in an episode of the ABC TV documentary series Back Roads, which aired last month.
The episode was filmed in and around Hermannsburg, which is known as Ntaria inthe local Western Arrarnta language and is home to the LCA’s Finke River Mission.
It included footage of members of the Lutheran choir rehearsing and a church service in the Arrarnta language, as well as of the historic Lutheran mission precinct.
The documentary also covered some of the history and impact of the missionaries’work in the area over more than a century, including the importance of their efforts to preserve the language and culture of the local Aboriginal people.
