Fight nor flight

15 January 2020

Many of them believed his message and were baptised, and about three thousand people were added to the group that day. They spent their time in learning from the apostles, taking part in the fellowship, and sharing in the fellowship meals and the prayers. (verses 41,42)

Read Acts 2:37-47

How do you respond on hearing the word of God? Do you fight it, trying to argue it away with logic and science, distancing yourself from what discomforts you? Do you take flight and hide, pretending that God, who knows everything, will not find you? I hope that instead you can respond like the people at Pentecost, by asking, ‘What shall I do?’ (verse 37).

The course of action that God wants you to take is neither to fight nor to flee but to tum and be forgiven. It is amazing how that submission to grace, the acceptance of the love gift offered to us all, will bring change in your life. Being forgiven sets you free to love God, yourself and others, deeply and truly. You too are then able to learn, share, pray, praise God and belong to the company of faith, just as the early Christians did.

Help me, God, to allow you to move in my life so that I can be changed. Let me keep growing in knowing the truth of your love, and let that love flow to all parts of my life. Amen.
