Community welcome at ‘closed’ church
There may not have been a Lutheran congregation at Bower in South Australia since March 2013, but the church is still ‘open’ for outreach.
On Sunday 12 March there will be a community worship service at the former St Peters church, 140 kilometres north of Adelaide. There have also been funerals held at the church since the congregation, formerly part of the Eudunda parish, closed.
District descendant Mel Zerner has been maintaining the St Peters cemetery for the past four years and the church building and nearby cemetery of the former Immanuel Lutheran Church since July 2016.
Locals and descendants of past members attended a working bee at the church in October 2016 and have been repairing the church windows and gates. Mr Zerner said there were plans for further repairs at the sites.
