Come and see Jesus

22 January 2020

Philip found Nathanael and told him, ‘We have found the one whom Moses wrote about in the book of the Law and whom the prophets also wrote about. He is Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth.’
‘Can anything good come from Nazareth?’ Nathanael asked.
‘Come and see’, answered Philip.

(verses 45, 46)

Read John 1:43-51

It was so easy for him to introduce his friend to Jesus. He only had to invite Nathanael to come and meet Jesus for himself. It’s not that easy, is it? When you invite your friends to come and meet Jesus, to whom do you take them? Where do you go? Where is Jesus now?

While you cannot physically see Jesus, you can certainly see where he is working. You can see Jesus when a brother and sister are reconciled to each other; when a grieving widow can say with confidence that her husband will live again; when a Christian community rallies to support the needy in its neighbourhood. You can meet him in the bread and wine of a simple Sunday meal.

You can talk about Jesus forever, but ultimately your friend will need to meet him. For no-one can believe in Jesus from a distance.

Dear Jesus, my friends need to meet you. Give me the courage and the wisdom to bring them to you. Amen.
