Central Australia choir movie heads to cinemas

21 March 2018

The Song Keepers, the documentary feature about the Central Australian Aboriginal Women’s Choir, will be screened in selected Australian cinemas from next month.

The magnificent voices of four generations of song women in the choir have taken them from singing in Lutheran churches at Ntaria (Hermannsburg), Utju (Areyonga) and Kaltukatjara (Docker River), to packed concert halls and churches in Europe. The Song Keepers documents that journey, as the choir takes hymns given to their ancestors by German missionaries back to Germany, now sung in their own Aboriginal languages.

Directed by award-winning filmmaker Naina Sen, the documentary premiered at last year’s Melbourne International Film Festival and will be screening in Melbourne, Sydney, Hobart, Canberra and Brisbane movie houses from 19 April. It will be released in Adelaide and Alice Springs on 3 May. At the time of writing, dates were yet to be finalised for Perth, Darwin and New Zealand.

More details regarding cinemas and screening times are available through http://potentialfilms.com/contemporary-movies/the-song-keepers/
