Catholic leader addresses synod
In a unique recognition of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, Brisbane’s Catholic Archbishop Mark Coleridge was a guest speaker during this month’s LCA Queensland District’s Convention of Synod.
During his talk at the convention dinner, Archbishop Coleridge reflected on what the Reformation anniversary means for all Christians as they continue together in God’s mission.
Indeed a spirit of unity was seen as the prevailing mood as delegates met at Grace Lutheran College Rothwell, about 30 kilometres north of Brisbane under the theme ‘One Faith … Our Future’. The three-day program of business and worship was hosted by Grace Lutheran Church from nearby Redcliffe.
Queensland District Second Assistant Bishop Mark Vainikka was re-elected for a further two-year term in that post, while Danielle Robinson, Pastor Mark Brinkmann and Pastor Ben Hentschke were elected as new members to the District Church Council.
The district’s 2017 Mission Stimulus Grant, which offers up to $25,000 to a congregation to support a local mission project thanks to the LLL, was awarded to Trinity Lutheran Church, Ashmore, on the Gold Coast. Trinity congregation will put the grant towards further strengthening its links with Trinity Lutheran College, where it is based.
