A bright picture

13 February 2018

The city has no need of the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God shines on it, and the Lamb is its lamp. The peoples of the world will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their wealth into it. The gates of the city will stand open all day; they will never be closed, because there will be no night there.  (verses 3, 4)

Read Revelation 21: 1-8

One of the most frightening times during World War II was night time. Because of the strict blackout rules, people had to move about their homes in total darkness. It was estimated that, in London alone, this resulted in tens of thousands of accidents, many of them fatal. It must have been wonderful, at the end of the war, for people to be able to move about in full light once more, freely and without fear.

When you get to heaven, you’ll experience the fullness of light that is Jesus. In the light of his ongoing brilliance, you will never again experience darkness with its associated fears. Only perfect freedom and peace.

It all makes for a really bright picture, doesn’t it? It’s a picture we can begin to enter into now as we ask Jesus, the Light of the world, to come to us in this life to drive out our fears and replace them with his peace.

Dear Jesus, let your light shine on me now to drive out my fears and replace them with your peace. Amen.
